Hoshen
The Hoshen is fashioned after the breastplate of the high priest in ancient Israel. This consisted of a linen apron upon which were mounted 12 mineral stones, the Urim VeTumim, symbolizing the twelve tribes of Israel. The stones were arrayed in four rows of three stones each, with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel inscribed on them. The Hoshen was used in oracular consultations. The attractive geometry and color of the Hoshen design is the basis for enchanting jewelry creations. |
