Rosh Hashanah

The zodiac sign for the Hebrew month of Tishrei is the scale, symbolizing the judgment which takes place on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. On this day all creations must pass before God one by one, as sheep pass under the shepherds’ staff, to be judged for their actions during the past year.
Rosh Hashanah is a two day holiday extending over the first two days of the Hebrew month of Tishrei. During these days, three Books of Judgment lay open before God, books for the righteous, the intermediate and wicked. The names of the righteous are inscribed in the Book of Life and those of the wicked are removed from it. The intermediate are given an extension of ten days called “Aseret Yemei Teshuva”, or Ten Days of Repentance, until the fast day of Yom Kippur, to repent and become righteous, or “tzaddikim”.
