Synagogue

The synagogue is a Jewish house of prayer and study.

Some features of the synagogue are:

The ark – where the Torah scrolls are kept. (called Aron Ha-Kodesh by Ashkenazim and Heichal by Sefardim.
Elevated reader’s platform – where Torah is read (called Bimah by Ashkenazim and Tevah by Sefardim.

Ner Tamid – eternal light, a continually lit lamp serving as a reminder of the constantly lit Menorah in the Holy Temple.
Pulpit – or amud, where the prayer leader stands while praying.
