Atzei Chaim or Handles for the Sefer Torah
The Etz Chaim Torah Handles are usually prepared when the Torah Scroll is almost ready, preparatory to it's introduction to the synagogue. They are usually made of fine wood, some dark and others beige, often with additional silver inserts. Once can dedicate these inserts with a sentence in memoriam of the loved one in whose memory the Torah was written. Sometimes the entire part is of silver and is extremely ornate. They have an interlocking guard which holds the holy scroll in place.
