The holy Ark of the Covenant rested in the Holy of Holies in the center of the Tabernacle, the portable home used by the Israelites before the Temple. Crafted from gold metal it is depicted here imposingly with the cherubim and their outstretched wings. Standing with dignity on a metal base, it is being carried on gold poles with a Shofar blower in front.
