This gleaming gold sculpture on a raised base, depicts the Ark of the Covenant, holding the Tablets with the Ten Commandments. It stood in the Mishkan, the portable dwelling place, where G-d communicated with Moses and the Israelites. Covered with pure gold, it had poles on the corners for the designated carriers and on top were angel-like cherubim with outstretched wings.
